  • Wash your face twice a day: if you are prone to breakouts or have oily skin, don’t skimp on washing your face as part of your morning and evening skin care routine. In a study that focussed specifically on face washing, participants were asked to wash their face one, two or four times a day for a six-week period. At the end of the study, there was a significant improvement in the acne lesions of those who washed their face twice a day. The participants who only washed their face once a day had the greatest increase in pimples.  
  • Use a mild cleanser: The aisles at most drugstores are packed with all sorts of facial cleansers. Trying to figure out which one is right for you can be overwhelming. When it comes to choosing the “best” cleanser, fancier may not necessarily be better. A systemic review of 14 studies found that there really isn’t much difference in skin breakouts, no matter what type of cleanser you use. A mild cleanser without a lot of ingredients and fragrances can work just as well as more expensive options.  
  • Apply a moisturizer: How does a moisturizer help keep your skin clear? Well, if your skin is excessively dry, it may try to compensate for the dryness by overproducing oil. The result? Breakouts. Like cleansers, moisturizers don’t have to be expensive or filled with fancy ingredients. Some people find they have to switch to heavier moisturizers during the winter months when cold, dry air can leave skin feeling tight and dried out.  
  • Use a peeling mask: This is a once-a-week indulgence. A peeling mask smoothens your skin and evens out your skin tone by getting rid of more dead skin cells compared to regular exfoliating scrubs. Choose peeling masks that contain natural fruit enzymes, such as pineapple or papaya. You may also try peeling masks with low levels of glycolic acid.   • Steam it up: You may steam your face for a few minutes twice or thrice a week. It helps clear the skin pores and removes impurities. It also helps the skin sweat and flushes out toxins.

  • Exercise daily: Exercise increases the blood flow in your body. Which in turn, gets the oxygen moving throughout the body. This leads to clearer skin and a slimmer you! Work out twice or thrice a week. You can try cardio, dancing, jogging, walking or trekking. 
  • Bid adieu to sugar and processed food: Cookies, candies, cupcakes and colas may sound tempting, but it is better to resist processed foods if you want to keep your body and skin healthy. Although the correlation between diet and skin health needs further research, dietary intervention may help reduce a few skin issues like acne and skin aging. For instance, a high intake of sugar can accelerate signs of aging by promoting cross-linking of collagen fibres. Consuming foods such as fruits and vegetables to your diet and cut your sugar intake to improve the appearance of your skin.
