HOW TO AVOID VARICOSE VEIN

Varicose veins are enlarged twisted and swollen veins often appearing blue or dark purple. Faulty valves in the veins allows blood to flow in the wrong direction and thus causes Varicose veins. Its best to treat these when it gets diagnosed, as with time it can turn into ‘Chronic Venous Insufficiency’ whereas, Spider Veins (also called telangiectasias) are small blood vessels that appear in the shape of small lines, clusters or spider web. These appear near surface of skin and are in blue, red or purple color.

Varicose veins don’t always cause problems. In some cases, they can be resolved with simple lifestyle changes.

EXERCISE REGULARLY

Your leg muscles are your biggest allies because they help your veins push blood to the heart. This is very useful since your muscles are working against gravity. Any leg exercises will also help prevent the appearance of new varicose veins.

LOSE WEIGHT IF YOU’RE OVERWEIGHT

You are placing more stress on your legs if you are overweight or obese. Losing weight can also keep new varicose veins from forming.

AVOID STANDING OR SITTING FOR A LONG TIME:

Today’s employees are at greater risk of developing varicose veins or making them worse. Remember to take a break at least every half hour and stand up and walk for a short while, even if it’s just to the break room and back. This forces the legs muscles to move blood toward your heart more than when you’re in a sedentary position. if your job requires you to stand for long periods of time, try to schedule a similiar break to sit for a while.

BE SURE TO PUT YOUR FEET UP

When possible, place your feet on a chair or stool positioned so the blood will be able to flow back toward your heart. This is particularly important if you have a job that requires you to stand or sit for long periods of time.

WEAR SUPPORT PANTY HOSE

This is also a good preventive measure to take to help keep varicose veins from forming, These do not place as much pressure as compression stockings, but for many, this is all they need.

INVEST IN COMPRESSION HOSE

You can purchase these over-the-counter or you can ask your doctor for prescription-strength compression hose. Pressure on the ankle and lower leg helps blood move back toward your heart.

HOME REMEDIES FOR VARICOSE VEINS:

Around 20 percent of adults will experience varicose veins at some point. There are several medical treatments for this condition, though a person may also wish to try natural home remedies to relieve their symptoms.

  • PLANT EXTRACTS: A review study from 2006 suggests that horse chestnut extract may help to reduce leg pain, heaviness, and itching in people with chronic venous insufficiency, which is a major cause of varicose veins. A review study from 2010 reports that sea pine extract, and butcher’s broom extract may both reduce leg swelling, or edema, that is often associated with varicose veins. Plant extracts and essential oils should be diluted in carrier oils before being applied topically or used in a diffuser for aromatherapy.
  • DIETARY CHANGES: Salty and sodium-rich foods can cause the body to retain water, so cutting down on salty food can minimize water retention. Foods high in potassium can help to reduce water retention.

FOODS THAT ARE HIGH IN POTASSIUM INCLUDE

  • Almonds and pistachio nuts
  • Lentils and white beans
  • Potatoes
  • Leafy vegetables
  • Some fish, such as salmon and tuna.

HERBAL REMEDIES TO AVOID VARICOSE VEINS

  • According to the National Institute of Health, taking grape seed extract, Vitis vinifera, orally may help to reduce swelling in the lower legs and other symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency, though there is currently limited evidence for its effectiveness. A person prescribed with blood-thinning medication should avoid taking grape seed extract, as a dietary supplement, as it can interact with the medication and increase the risk of bleeding.

MASSAGE

Gently massaging the affected areas can help to keep the blood moving through the veins. A person can use gentle massage oils or moisturizer for optimal effects. It is crucial to avoid pressing directly onto the veins, however, as this may damage fragile tissues.

If varicose veins home treatments are not working or causing a person severe discomfort, medical treatment is also available to help tackle varicose veins. The following are the medical treatments:

  • Endothermal ablation
  • Ambulatory phlebectomy
  • Sclerotherapy
  • Ligation and stripping
  • Laser surgeries
  • Endoscopic vein surgery

HOW TO AVOID VARICOSE VEIN IN AYURVEDA

In general, it’s best to follow a Vata-Pitta balancing diet. Especially during the vata season (winter), you should eat foods that balance the dry, fast-moving, irregular Vata dosha.

To help balance Varicose vein, you’ll want to eat foods that are cooked, warm, and unctuous (meaning that they have a small amount of good fats such as ghee and olive oil). Eat foods that are predominantly sweet, such as whole grains, light diary products and sweet fruits, as this balances both Vata and Pitta dosha. Also favor moderate amounts of bitter and astringent tastes (which include legumes, greens and most vegetables). While salty foods are soothing to Vata dosha, you’ll want to moderate your salt intake, because high sodium diets are associated with varicose veins.

Eat whole grains such as millet and buckwheat, legumes, fruits and vegetables, which are high in fiber and rich in vitamins which can restore health to your veins. Here are some examples:

  • Blackberries and cherries help heal varicose veins.
  • Vitamin A, which speeds varicose ulcer healing, is found in cantaloupe, carrots, pumpkins, sweet potato , leafy greens etc.
  • Vitamin B, which help maintain strong blood vessels, are found in all seasonal fruits, lassi, whole grains, lentils, pulses and dhals.
  • Vitamin E, which helps to improve circulation, is found in almonds and almond oil.
  • Zinc, which assists with healing and collagen formation, is found in pumpkin seeds and sweet fresh fruits. Minimally invasive treatment can get rid of or fade leg veins. treatment can also diminish symptoms like pain and fatigue and prevent complications.
